Aisin Illinois in Marion was ranked #8 on Forbes list of best employers in the state of Illinois in 2023. Forbes compiled the list of the Best Employers by State 2023 by partnering with market research firm Statista to survey a total of 70,000 full- or part-time employees across all 50 states and the District of Columbia who work at companies with more than 500 workers nationwide. Participants were asked whether they would recommend their employer to friends and family, and to evaluate their employer based on criteria including working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, potential for development and company image.
“This recognition is evidence of our commitment to our two deep rooted principles of: producing the highest quality components and respect for our Human Resources,” said Aisin in a post on LinkedIn.
Aisin has developed into one of the largest employers in Southern Illinois over the last two decades, now providing jobs to more than 2000 people from more than 60 zip codes. The company moved to Marion and the state of Illinois in 2001, first with Aisin Manufacturing (AMI), which assembles sunroofs, power slide door modules, and door locks for companies such as Toyota, General Motors, Subaru, and Mercedes-Benz. A second plant, Aisin Light Metals (ALM), was announced in 2003. Assembling bumper reinforcements and anti-lock braking system (ABS) bodies primarily in Toyota vehicles, the original 135,000 square foot building has since expanded to more than 200,000 square feet.
With the groundbreaking of Aisin Electronics Illinois (AEIL) in July 2004, a third plant was added in Marion. AEIL manufactures electronic systems used to control products such as sunroofs, power sliding door systems, and much more. These parts are transferred to customers to be assembled for the final process, allowing Aisin to streamline logistics and increase production efficiency.
Aisin is once again expanding its operation in Southern Illinois, announcing a partnership with industrial developer, Agracel, Inc, to build the Marion Logistics Center (MLC). The MLC will provide operations such as shipping, receiving, inventory control, and service parts control in a 463,000 square foot building next to its existing three plants.
“The location has proven to be perfect for Aisin’s logistics operation, in a time when supply chain management is critical,” said Bill Cox, a senior vice president of administration. “Since Aisin was established here in Illinois, it has received excellent government support at local, state and national levels. With the resources and partnership of organizations like the Illinois Manufacturing Association (IMA), the Regional Economic Development Commission (REDCO) and local Chambers of Commerce we’ve been well-equipped to work through challenges so we could not only operate our business effectively, but also expand within the community. We’ve been able to add good jobs for area residents, and maintain our position as a great corporate citizen, which is a top priority to Aisin companies around the world.”
